There are exactly four weeks until the Victorian Handknitters Guild 2018 Yarn and Craft Market!
Last year was fantastic but frantic. Geoff was sick, so I didn’t have an offsider to help me schlep all my stuff to Coburg and back, and to take over when I needed a coffee and a stretch.
This year Geoff will be helping out, and I’m putting him in charge of pompoms. I think the pompoms will be very popular, but I only have about 40 so get in quick before he names them and can’t bear to part with them.
The market is on Sunday. 13 May 2018, at Coburg Town Hall from 10am to 3pm. Entry is free.
The Guild members will be able to wind up your skeins into cakes too, just in case you need to start knitting on the train on your way home. I think they charged $2 per skein last year, if I hear this has changed I’ll let you know. They also have a lot of vintage patterns for sale too. It’s probably good that I couldn’t leave my stall last year, or I would have spent all my takings on 1950’s glove patterns.
If you can get to Coburg, you really should go! If you live outside of Melbourne and can get to Southern Cross Station on your local Vline service, then it’s just a matter of getting on an Upfield train and jumping off at Coburg station. The Town Hall is 5 minutes’ walk away – heading East along Bell Street.
Last year (before the doors opened to the public), I got to see what was on the other stalls and there was a lot of beautiful yarn and fibre. Even if your stash is bigger than your house and you can’t justify buying another skein, there will be project bags, needles, carding combs, knitted items, kits, stitch markers and lots of other goodies.
My advice (especially for those with a long train ride on the way home), is to have a pattern and needles in your bag for something you want to make. You can cast on your project on the way home. If you can select something that doesn’t really need to be swatched, even better.
Time to start reseaching on Ravelry for things you can knit with one skein, and have a bit of leeway on gauge. Start planning now – you have exactly four weeks!
