Two days ago Geoff and I embarked on a mini road trip. We drove from Bacchus Marsh to Wangaratta for an early family Christmas. Normally this is about three and a half hours but we decided to go via Woodend, Bendigo, Shepparton and Benalla which made it a six-hour trip. We came back home last night.
Although I took my camera I rarely used it – which I’m regretting a bit now. Still, I got the requisite picture of Geoff holding two jugs of beer – yes folks, the Holgate Brewery now sells beer in jugs.
After we made all the hackneyed jokes about jugs, we were informed that this particular type and size of beer bottle was known as a “growler”. Oh my.
We arrived in Wangaratta and were greeted by the very handsome Oscar…
…and the Ewok-like Poppy
There was roast pork and trifle and cheesecake and a magnificent flashback to the 1970’s – the half orange studded with ham, cheese, onion and pineapple toothpicks.
I know what I’ll be making for Christmas lunch on the 25th. In fact, I might have a whole 1970’s themed Christmas lunch, with prawn cocktails, duck a l’orange and black forest gateau. But that’s still two weeks away, plenty of time to plan.
On our travels, I managed to complete two more UFOs which means there are only ten more to finish from the original 20. I’ll update on the UFO situation tomorrow. But for now, it’s nice to be back home.
