Here is a simple scarf pattern. It’s reversible and it matches the Flip Reversible Beanie (see links at left to free patterns available here). It’s a unisex pattern as it’s not too lacy and in the right yarn, would like quite blokey.
It is a two row repeat that you will memorise easily. It’s ideal for someone who has just learned how to do yarnovers, k2togs and skpos and wants some practice.
So, depending on your yarn weight, you cast on a multiple of seven plus 2.
For DK weight I recommend 44 stitches (6 x 7 + 2)
For Aran weight I recommend 37 stitches (5 x 7 + 2)
For bulky weight I recommend 30 stitches (4 x 7 + 2)
You will need about 300m of whatever yarn you are using. Sorry I’m not more precise, but I’ve made a heap of these in different yarns and the general rule is that if you have 3 or 4 balls of something leftover, you will be fine.
I’m knitting a DK weight scarf at the moment so I’ll update the yardage once I’ve finished.
