Last Sunday I spent the day selling yarn at the Victorian Hand Knitters Guild yarn market. It was fun but exhausting.
The Hand Knitters Guild yarn market is an annual event held at the Coburg Town Hall. This year there were over 20 stalls of hand dyed yarn as well as people selling project bags, swifts, wool for spinning and knitted items. My stall was set up opposite one that was selling giant knitted chickens – naturally I had to buy one and add her to my stall to watch over the skeins of 16ply yarn.
I completely sold out of some of my yarn colours – including Fairy Bread in both 8ply Highlands and Champagne Sock 4ply.
I couldn’t believe how busy it was. All the stall holders knew when the train had just stopped at Coburg station, because a horde of excited knitters arrived immediately afterwards. One of my customers said it was like a mosh pit – and she was spot on!
Seven hours after I arrived it was time to pack up and head home. I hadn’t eaten all day so on the way home I was so ravenous that I stoped at a supermarket and bought some deli chicken and a can of cola and ate them in the carpark.
Despite being so busy all day I really enjoyed the market and getting to speak with lots of other knitters. I’ll definitely do the market again next year.

I was good fun – I still can’t believe how many people were there though!
