I’ve bought Noro yarn on a whim three times now. Twice I’ve bought Silk Garden Lite and once Silk Garden Sock Yarn.
The sock yarn went to my mother who made me a very snazzy pair of (slightly too big but lovely) socks. The first purchase of two balls of Silk Garden Light have been knitted, frogged, knitted again and frogged again. I’ve wound them into balls and they are currently relegated to the stash.
Then I bought another ball of Silk Garden Lite. The plan was to knit a hat but it was not a good choice of pattern and again I frogged and wound it into balls until just two days ago.
The thing that appeals to me about Noro yarns is both the striking colour and colour changes and the slubby texture. Unfortunately these are both things that can be tricky to live with in a garment. Much easier to live with in accessories, trims and homewares.
So I was just mucking around and started knitting five-petal flowers. The picture doesn’t quite do them justice but the blue/violet ones are so rich and saturated in colour I can’t stop playing with them.
Not a great picture but they are very cute.
Now I’ve knitted up some flowers (and I currently have 34 of them) what to do with them?
I was thinking about a tea cosy but I’ve been on a tea cosy binge of late and have run out of tea pots. I wanted to knit something that I’d be able to enjoy more often than the couple of times a week that I have a pot of tea.
I’ve decided on a cushion that is crowded with flowers on each side. As the flowers have a large open centre I have work out how to fill this with something other than a knitted bobble. Beads and buttons are both in the running right now.
I’ll have the pattern added in about two weeks (free of course) so stay tuned.
