Six weeks ago, Cobey passed away. After nearly 15 years of being the best little cat in the universe he decided it was time to go. I still miss him every day – he really was my little baby and always will be.
After a month of living in a very sad and quiet house, Geoff and I decided that we really needed a kitty in our home.
Cobey is irreplaceable – all cats have their own personalities and you can’t just swap one for another. But we enjoyed having a kitty to come home to and boss us around so we decided to head up to Pets Haven cat shelter in Woodend and meet some cats who were looking for homes.
There were about a dozen cats there waiting to be adopted. We didn’t even look at the kittens. Kittens will always find a home, but it’s the older ones that have a hard time being adopted. Also, we don’t have the energy for a kitten – all that biting, and curtain climbing and 2am galloping.
After meeting all the cats we decided to adopt two. So please meet our little fatties, Tommy (left) and Gus (right).
As you can see from these pictures, cats do a lot of sleeping in our house. So do the humans.
Tommy is about 18 months old and very playful. He is also very snugly. Gus is about 5 and he is a big smooch – he demands pats and cuddles every time he sees us. They get on really well and both of them are little fatties. Tommy is just a bit squishy but Gus is a big, fat cat who needs to go jogging with me at night – but we’ll just start with lots of playing in the back yard.
Although they both like to eat yarn, they are very welcome additions to our home. I can’t believe someone would dump or abandon these gorgeous little guys.
Its nice to have the fatties bossing us around.

Glad to hear you have two new little fatties to boss you around. They can’t replace your adored one, but they can help fill the empty spaces in your heart.
I don’t understand people. But your boys are lucky – they’ve ended up in an awesome home!

They are certainly very happy with their new family.
Gus has a tricky start and spent the first week under the bed. He had a cold so maybe not being able to smell things make it hard for him to adjust to his new home. Also, I had to go to Hobart for a week so it was just Geoff and the kitties at home and he doesn’t have the same cat lady skills as I do. But some antibiotics for the cold and a Feliway diffuser for the stress have worked wonders and he is now very happy. If he wants cuddles (and he always wants cuddles) he’ll hunt you down and work his charm.
Tommy is incredibly sweet and he has a permanently cranky face – a bit like grumpy cat. So even when he is purring up a storm he looks like he’s judging you – he’s just so damn adorable! Tommy is my little baby – even when he sleeps on the kitchen table (naughty!).
Ahhh… my little fatties are so sweet.
