There are three reasons I buy vintage knitting patterns:
1 – I actually want to knit the item at some point.
2 – The pattern is simply lovely to look at.
3 – It’s too funny not to take it home and threaten Geoff with.
Today’s Retro Monday features ponchos, sideburns and lots of orange yarn. Each of these things can be fine if tastefully handled. The patterns from Patons “Man Talk” combine all three – with not a scrap of taste.
Sadly (or perhaps happily) these are not the dodgiest patterns in my collection. The 70s may have been a great time of hand-crafts, but it was generally unkind to knitwear.
(Please note that I do not own the copyright to any patterns featured in Retro Monday. Unfortunately this means I make or send out copies).

Oh my god. They are brilliant! I am dying from laughing so hard…

Plenty more where that came from. I might treat you to some knitted Christmas obscenities in December.

40c! Good times indeed with prices like that! Personally, I think it’s criminal to charge for those hideous patterns, but then I suppose we’ll feel the same way about this season’s fluorescent nail colours in a few years! 🙂
Jen says
40c might seem like good value for a pattern but you need to factor in the years of therapy for anyone you knit these horrors for.

Jen, long story short, I’ve been dared to knit to psychodelic poncho in the first image. I’m guessing I need to pony up more than 40c! What are my chances.
Sincerely (aka a little bit crazy!)
