I could never work out why people dress identical twins in identical outfits. Bridesmaids all wearing the same dresses confuse me too – I just don’t understand why they are made to dress the same. (But I don’t understand what function bridesmaids actually serve so I’m never going to understand the dress code).
Even stranger are “mother and daughter” outfits. I wont go into detail but click the link if you dare.
But today’s patterns offer matching couples’ knitwear. Yes – you too can wear the same jumper as your fella just like you always dreamed you could.
Most of these are from the 60s which makes sense. Knitwear became boxier and plainer so styles could be unisex more readily than those of previous decades.
These don’t disturb me as much as other types of matchy-matchy clothing, but I think that’s because they’re just meant to be unisex patterns. I don’t think Patons are really suggesting that you knit up matching jumpers.
Or are they?
(Please note that I do not own the copyright to any patterns featured in Retro Monday. Unfortunately this means I make or send out copies).

If I was wear any of these, it would be the green. Provided I could be part of the story in the photo. Thanks for the link!

They do kind of look like they’re having more fun than they should in the library.
