I’ve never wanted to knit a dress. I think that knitting a dress requires far more work than I’m prepared to undertake, so I’m especially impressed when someone knits their own wedding dress.
Besides, knitted dresses have kind of had their moment – that moment being about 50 years ago according to my collection of vintage patterns.
Today’s vintage knitting treasure is courtesy of Patons, and it’s a ripper. This really is a pattern book that I bought for entertainment value rather than any intention to knit from it.
Although there are a few patterns for men and a handful of ladies separates, most of this pattern book is about knitted dresses. To me, they just look a bit daggy, but there clearly was a time when they were popular.
What do you think about knitted dresses? Would you knit a dress? Would you wear a knitted dress?
(Please note that I do not own the copyright to any patterns featured in Retro Monday. Unfortunately this means I make or send out copies).

I *would* wear a knitted dress – though the patterns I’ve been looking at have indeed been from the late 50s/early 60s, as I like the vintage look.

I think I’d like some of the knitted skirts I’ve seen from the 50’s but I don’t really have the Jean Shrimpton figure to carry off true 60s styling.
