In the previous Retro Monday post, I featured some styles from the early sixties and I remarked that they were fairly typical of what 60’s women’s wear looked like before it got all cutesy.
Well, this week’s patterns are good examples of the cutesy look I was referring to.
These dresses are from a Paton’s pattern booklet that I’d place in the late 1960s. We have here examples of two styles from the late 60’s that I find equally unappealing.
The white dress on the left has a very Brigitte Bardot feel to it. It kind of looks like a sexed-up nightie to me and I just find the combination of the bow and frills and lacy stitch a bit too twee.
The blue dress on the left is a little better – but it’s still has a school girl look to it with the lacy collar – but the cardigan and skirt are not bad as individual items. This is a bit more of a Twiggy style and it wouldn’t look out of place with white pantyhose and pilgrim shoes.
I don’t know, maybe I’m just getting cranky and old, but I really find it hard to like little girl styles on adults.
What do you think? Do you enjoy girlish fashions or are you a member of the cranky old lady brigade with me?
