This week’s offering is from a book called “All You Can Knit and Crochet for Men”. It’s a Golden Hands special publication from the mid 1970’s and I must admit that I bought it for giggles.
Although the jumper on the front cover is quite nice, most of the patterns are hilarious. The crochet vest below is kind of clever in terms of construction – simple squares sewn together with a ribbed edge picked up and knitted. But clever doesn’t equal stylish and it really is a bit of a shocker for menswear. It might work as womenswear depending on the colours you choose but I think it would be a novelty item at best.
Picture number three for today is a very dated zip-up cardigan, but what I find funniest about this picture is the styling of the photo. I don’t think props and staging were a big priority for the pictures in this book because there is a dirty plate covered in food scraps and gravy in the bottom right corner. I’m convinced that the photographer and models really did just pop down to the pub for lunch and take a quick picture while there.
Finally a picture that I won’t even comment on. It needs no caption from me.
Enjoy.
(Please note that I do not own the copyright to any patterns featured in Retro Monday. Unfortunately this means I make or send out copies).
