Ahhh yes, the stash.
No longer a jumble of unsorted mess. I wrote labels, sorted by type and packed it neatly back into its boxes.
Thank you to those who reassured me that it wasn’t the biggest or scariest stash in the world. I am a bit scared of the size of the stash that some people described, but as long as you are happy to live with the stash you have I can’t see any harm in it.
The most satisfying part of the stash clean up was saying goodbye to a lot of poor choices. I seemed to have collected a huge amount of Lincraft Cosy Wool in pale pink, green, blue and variegated mixtures of the three.
I loved these colours and yarn four years ago when I bought them. Not so much now. I think Cosy Wool is good value, has a great range of colours (except for neutrals) and felts pretty well. It’s just not where I’m at right now in a knitting sense. So the lolly coloured Cosy Wool went off to the op shop for the ladies who make granny square rugs.
Another thing that had to go was a weird and inexplicable collection of metallic yarns – including two hanks of Louisa Harding Sari Ribbon. I love the way it looks on the hank and I’ve seen a lot of really impressive projects using it – but whatever I try to do with Sari Ribbon fails. It just screams NOVELTY YARN! and the metallic threads tear my cuticles.
There was a lot of other stuff that went to the op shop and while I’m sad about the yarn that never got to be the amazing dress/cape/vest/shawl/whatever I bought it for, I’m glad it will get a second chance with someone else.
So the stash I now have is still pretty big by my standards, but it’s all labelled so I know what is in each box.
It feels really good to know not only what I have, but where to get it at a moment’s notice.
