This month one of my finished projects was the Wee Liesl baby cardigan.
I went to a family barbecue last weekend hosted by the parents of one year old called Emily. I’d briefly met her two months ago at her christening but it was only very brief, so it was nice to spend a bit of time with her while the munched her way through squishy handfuls of avocado.
When I saw Emily at her christening it became clear that the knitted jacket I made for her was far too small, so I cast on a new one and gave it to her at the barbecue.
I chose a pattern by Ysolda Teague called Wee Liesl, and you can see the results below. I sewed on the buttons and steam blocked it with just minutes to spare.
I must say I’m very happy with this project. It was quick, easy and very satisfying. I like many of Ysolda Teague’s patterns and I especially like the attention she pays to detailed and clear instructions. It pays to read through the patterns first as there are quite a few steps, but provided you do this you shouldn’t get lost.
The only variation I made was in the placement of the buttons. I made the 12-18 month size cardigan, but I was worried it might be too small. Emily is a big baby. I placed the three buttons quite close together near the neck rather than spacing them out down the button band. I gave the cardigan a bit more movement without changing the look very much.
It’s good that I enjoy this pattern because Emily will grow out of her cardigan very quickly, so I’m going to cast on the next size up this week.
