I’ve decided to do a little update this week and show you what I’m currently working on.
I’m still rearranging my craft room to get everything sorted and stored effectively, and part of this sorting involved frogging a lot of projects that I’d lost interest in. As a result, I only have three current projects which is pretty conservative for me.
First up is something that will keep going for months or even years. It’s a classic granny square blanket that I’m making to use up my oddballs of 8ply yarn.
I’m sticking to solid and tweed colours in superwash wool and my only rules for color are “no brown, no black and no orange”.
So far I’m managing to get a nice balance of colours, and I’m happy to buy a few balls of particular shades to keep the combinations looking fresh and balanced.
My plan is to just keep crocheting around and around until it’s big enough for a double bed – which is why this is likely to stretch into next year. It’s a nice project to just pick up and work on when I want a mindless project while I watch a movie.
My other current projects did not photograph well so there are not pictures today. It’s dark when I get home, so if I don’t take my photos during daylight hours on the weekend, it doesn’t work out.
I’m still working on the Plus One Shawl that I blogged about last week. I’ve just finished the first of the four balls of yarn for this project and finishing seems a long way off. As shawls grow, each row takes longer to complete, and progress seems impossible.
It’s pretty much mindless knitting at the moment because I’m working on the endless garter stitch section.
I’m also knitting Jared Flood’s Cobblestone jumper for Geoff. I’m about 20% of the way in at the moment. It’s a bottom-up, seamless construction, so even more mindless knitting while I work on the body section.
For Cobblestone, I’m using Morris and Sons Woollahrah in the Hunter colour and it knits up beautifully. The 10% silk content makes it velvety and soft, although it isn’t as robust as a pure wool. This could be as much due to the nubby texture of the yarn as it is the fibre content.
So three current projects, none of them quick, all of them very repetitive. There is a baby due in August I need to knit for (not mine!) so I might take a detour and make some quick little baby things to break up the bigger projects.
I wonder if I’ll have any of these finished in time for next months “what’s on the needles” update.
